UiTM Respiratory Specialist Clinic has been operating since 2008 by offering its service in Medical Clinic, Selayang Hospital. In the beginning, it is run by 4 respiratory specialists from Faculty of Medicine, UiTM whom offered a general pulmonary health consultation. Diagnostic tests conducted by highly trained personel ranging from a simple lung function test (spirometry) to a more advance tests aiming to screen for any airway impairment and measure its severity i.e. asthma, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).
Over 6 years the service has expanding and the clinic has been accepting a lot of cases which has been referred from other clinics, hospitals and medical centers. In line with the increasing number of patients and services offered, Respiratory Unit, UiTM has opened its own specialist clinic in both two branches of the UiTM Medical Faculty – Selayang and Sungai Buloh Campus respectively.
During early 2016, specialist clinic at the Faculty of Medicine, UiTM Sungai Buloh has been accredited with a Medical Centre status and its name has been changed to Pusat Pakar Perubatan UiTM (PPPUiTM). Currently, Respiratory Specialist Clinic of PPPUiTM has been fully operating in PPPUiTM Sungai Buloh on every Wednesday and in Selayang Campus on Tuesdays and Fridays. On Tuesday evening of every third week of the month there will be a Respiratory-Rheumatoid Combined Clinic held at the Medical Clinic, Selayang Hospital attended by our Consultant Respiratory Physician cum Head of Respiratory Unit, Dr Mohd Arif Mohd Zim.
Besides our routine clinic, we also provide a specialist service to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Jemaah (HTAJ) Sabak Bernam and Hospital Teluk Intan. Our visiting specialist will attend the clinic on a monthly basis.
Besides lung function tests, we also provide other services i.e. Bronchovideoscopy, Pleurovideoscopy, Endobronchial-Ultrasonography (EBUS) which were being conducted in PPPUiTM Sungai Buloh and in Daycare Suite, Selayang Hospital on every Monday and Thursday respectively.
Sleep health is one of our concern. In Asia, the quality of sleep is closedly related to the airway impairment during sleep. In order to help the people with Sleep Disordered-Breathing (SDB) we have set up an integrated sleep lab in PPPUiTM Sungai Buloh completed with a Polysomnograph machine to help in sleep analysis (Sleep Health Study).
